The creation of Sunspot Enterprises, Inc.
It was a pleasant sunny day back in 1992 when I was on the way to a friend's house. I was sitting at a red light, and the sun was just above the rear view mirror, but far enough over to where the visor didn't block it. As I sat there with the glare in my eyes, I decided that I could improve on the standard automobile visor. What I really needed was just a couple of spots on the windshield to block the sun. Obviously the spots would need to move around as the sun did, but I'm a computer programmer. I can move dots/spots around.
My invention would be called Sunspot. I started the corporation with the idea of creating and marketing an Electronic Visor for automobiles. The basic design would include a targeting device that would aim itself at the sun, and send it's coordinates to a microprocessor which would go through an algorithm to determine where the spots would need to be to block the sun from the driver's eyes. A liquid crystal display would be added to the windshield, so the system could electrically darken the spots as required.
I started the Sunspot Enterprises, Inc. as an S-corporation able to do anything that is legal in the state of Texas to make money. I got a CPA and hired a patent lawyer. My CPA approved me running my computer consulting contracts through the corporation as a way of funding the project. Unfortunately, someone else beat me to the patent, but I kept the corporation and continue doing computer consulting through it. Now I am using the Corporation to fund Robot Ranch, my tree farm/orchard on 7 acres that I bought in Ferris, Texas.
